The Scrape, a harsh and unforgiving region on the eastern side of Starstone Isle (also known as the Isle of Kortos), bears the mark of a violent past. Once fertile plains, it was ravaged during the First Siege of Absalom in 23 AR. The hooves of a massive centaur army, empowered by seismic magic, tore through the land. Aroden, the legendary god of time, intervened, turning the centaurs' magic against them. The earth cracked open, swallowing the invaders and leaving behind a vast, desolate expanse.
Jagged Canyons: Deep fissures scar the land, their bottoms shrouded in perpetual twilight. Here, strange crystalline formations, remnants of the arcane magic that ripped the earth apart, can be found.
Barren Wasteland: Wind whips across the dusty plains, dotted with bleached bones and the shattered remnants of the Brazen Arch, the broken teleportation portal used by the invading army.
Scrublands and Buttes: Patches of hardy scrub brush cling to life, offering meager cover for scavengers and the occasional wandering monster. Mesa-like buttes rise from the plains, some rumored to hold unexplored ruins.
Places of Interest:
Rising from the ashes of past conflicts, Orcania is a burgeoning orc and gnome community. Orcs, traditionally known for their ferocity, have embraced a philosophy of cooperation under the leadership of a charismatic war chief who values engineering and craftsmanship. Gnomes, with their natural affinity for invention, have found a haven here, working alongside the orcs to create a bustling center of art, technology, and surprisingly good ale.
A splinter group from Orcania, the orcs of Belkzan remain wedded to their warlike traditions. They view Orcania's embrace of gnomes and technology as weakness, and constantly raid trade routes, seeking to establish dominance over the Scrape.
Traveling through the Scrape is perilous. Nomadic centaur tribes, bitter and xenophobic, roam the plains, ready to attack any who trespass on their territory. Razorclaw scorpions lurk in the canyons, while strange, mutated creatures, warped by the arcane energies that scarred the land, emerge from the shadows at night.
Orcania offers a haven for travelers, for a price. The orcs are wary of outsiders, but respect those who show respect and can offer something of value. Belkzan, however, offers no such hospitality. Those captured face a brutal end in the Arena of Blood.
The Scrape is a land of harsh beauty and hidden potential. Here, amidst the ruins of war, a new society is taking root, while the shadows of the past harbor savage dangers. Only the bravest souls dare to venture into this unforgiving land, seeking fortune, glory, or perhaps a chance to reshape a troubled region.
