The Soots found themselves in a dire and precarious situation. Otto, Nitro, and Snax stood on the brink of battle, the air thick with tension. Their surroundings were hostile: a rickety wooden bridge spanned a vast gorge, and foes awaited them, armed with spells and malice. Otto, weary from long days of travel, braced himself despite his fatigue, while Nitro sharpened her resolve, and Snacks prepared his mystical tools. Rhustyne, ever watchful, cast a protective spell that shimmered in a blue aura, offering The Soots a small bastion of safety.
The group barely had time to breathe as the combat began. Otto took the first move, his crossbow singing as it loosed a bolt that struck Niles, one of the enemyβs commanders. The bolt hit its mark, causing the enemy to stumble. Inspired, Snax unfurled a scroll of Sleep and chanted the incantation. Most of the enemy forces succumbed, crumpling to the ground; save for the evil dwarf,Dr. Frasier Crane, who shook off the magic and prepared his counterattack.
Amid the chaos, Nitro launched herself into the fray with devastating precision. Her greataxe cleaved through the air, and with one brutal swing, she decapitated an enemy. Not satisfied, she followed up with a spectacular leap, splitting another foe cleanly in two. Her actions were as awe-inspiring as they were deadly.
Otto, seeing the precarious nature of the wooden bridge, decided to turn it into a weapon. He threw an acid flask onto the planks, watching as the caustic liquid began to eat away at the structure. The bridge groaned under the strain, the acid working its magic. Snax, meanwhile, held firm against Dr. Frasier Craneβs Fear spell, his resolve unbroken. He retaliated with a spell of his own, casting Bane to weaken the enemyβs resolve. Nitroβs creativity shone as she attempted to hurl a corpse at Frazier, a tactic that, while unconventional, added to the chaos of the battlefield.
As the acid weakened the bridge further, Otto followed up with a carefully aimed flask of oil and a lit torch. The flames roared to life, devouring the already weakened wood. With a thunderous crack, the bridge gave way. Snax, deftly grabbed for a plank, saving himself from plummeting into the unknown. However, Dr. Frasier Crane and Niles, along with several other foes, were not so lucky as they fell into the darkness below. Victory seemed within reach, but an unsettling noise from the depths silenced any celebrations.
From within the cavern came a clacking sound, sharp and rhythmic, like the joints of some massive creature snapping together. Mandibles clicked in the shadows, and the partyβs breath caught. As the noise intensified, the group realized something was amiss.
Snax climbed up to safety, his movements hurried as he joined his comrades to relay the grim revelation. The shadows grew darker, and the clacking sounds reverberated like a death knell, driving the group to hastily set traps and brace for the unknown horror approaching from the depths. Otto reloaded his crossbow, Nitro readied her axe, and Snacks took a swig of [High Tide Whiskey]
Rhustyne, pale and focused, tightened the Circle of Protection. When questioned, she admitted that she had been deceased all along, her presence tied to her mission to protect the group and fulfill her duty to her clan, the KazGundelgorn. Her spectral form shimmered as she revealed that the protective spell was her final gift.
She handed the party special stones, explaining that these could be used to return home safely by focusing on what 'home' meant to each of them. She also entrusted them with her religious chain, instructing the group to deliver it to the Temple of Pharasma in the Ascendant Court for a reward on her behalf. Despite the solemn moment, Rhustyne expressed her gratitude and encouraged the party to carry on.
Each Stone bore the markings:
With her Circle of Protection holding steady, the group took the stones she had provided and focused their thoughts on what 'home' meant to each of them. As they concentrated, the stones began to glow faintly, and a shimmering portal enveloped them. In an instant, they were transported to the familiar surroundings of [Drippy]'s, their chosen safe haven. The transition was both disorienting and a relief, as they left the ominous clacking sounds and impending danger behind them.
The Soots found themselves in the basement of Drippy's; Old Greg was passed out in the corner as usual. They took a rest next to Old Greg and planned their next move. A quick stop at the Temple of Pharasma to get paid, then a meeting with Large Marge
But before the end of the night, the Soots took a shot of a particulary potent distillation of High-Tide whiskey. As they drank some strange effects took over.
Nitro - Has started to cry gemstones for the next 3 days
Otto - For the next 24 hours, he can detach and reattach his limbs for the next 24 hours
Snax - His eyes now change with his mood, forever.
Despite their successes, a foreboding sense of unfinished business lingered. The teamβs ingenuity and bravery had brought them this far, but the challenges ahead promised to test their limits.
